Kill a Cock, Stop a Cockfight

He can feel how he feels, but his methods are so-so.
He enjoys enforcing the law with extreme gusto
and doesn't care if the impact feels like a low blow.

Now he and Steven Segal are filming reality TV,
earning fame doing things that seem senseless to me.
(They somehow managed to kill an innocent puppy
when their tank and SWAT team raided a property.)

They say they were putting an end to cock fights,
and I definitely feel for the fighting cocks' plights,
but I can't say the Sheriff's actions promote animal rights.
It'd be better if they'd lived to have more fun nights.

Perhaps there was no available rooster rescue
to provide a happier, more peaceful venue,
where they could do the things that roosters do,
like frolic outdoors and yell cock-a-doodle-do!

Still, I'd rather see the Sheriff open his own retail store
where he could sell rescued roosters, gangster's guns and more.
Find a better way to be rough and tough, I implore.
Sheriff, stories of your lawsuits are becoming a bore.

  1. Wow you'd think after that many lawsuits he'd get the boot
As the state must be losing quite the loot
    Nuts indeed
No one should follow his lead
    And realty tv pfft crap
    I'd rather take a nap

  2. I admit to liking Steven Segal
but i don't think much of his pal
If he killed a little dog
he should have his head stuck in a bog
I'm going to have to give up this lark
cos i must sound like an old boy having a fart

  3. The opening lines of that Segal article, "Arizona, which we are still not convinced isn't a hoax..."

It saddens me to see that the state which I consider my 2nd home has fallen so low. I know they've done things to deserve this reputation, but at the same time it feels like everyone's piling on. Not everyone from Arizona is an inbred, conservative idiot.

(I'm not directing those comments towards you, btw. I can't hardly blame you for simply linking to an article. Just sharing some thoughts. You poem, as usual, was quite cute.)

  5. @Pat Hatt - I too can't believe he hasn't gotten the boot. His law suits certainly will cost the whole loot. :(

@Larry Lewis - I'm still not sure how they killed the puppy, but I bet the episode was really something to see.

@Bryan - This writing actually comes from a simlar place. I have friends and family there and know quite well that the whole state isn't crazy. But somehow they keep electing these officials and gathering this reputation that saddens me.

@Alejandro - Don't you ever read? Of course he's still alive. :oP

  8. You've rhymed it fine
    But the story's sad
makes me feel upset and mad

Bravo to you for what you do
But Segal and pal deserve a behind bars view!

  9. Well I 've never been to Arizona but my experience shows me that 1. not all people are the same and 2. media creates an image of places and everyone believes it if true or not.
I just try to make up my own mind but killing animals for the sake of justice is just silly. The shame is that they show this program in Europe as well which does not help America really. Great Poem (after chrome let me get on here again......)

  10. Wow, you illustrated our past Sheriff. He was voted out Finally, but the damage in is wake is unbelievable. In fact, his wife just had him arrested for abuse. LOL!! Power given to small minded men is a scary situation. Great poem!

  12. @Brian - Yes, I'm sure a puppy isn't the only one who has been hurt by these methods.

@ayala - Yes, sorry there was no happy ending. :(

    @robkistner - Thanks!

@Natsha - I wish Segal and pal had a behind bars view! Though sending them to "tent city" could be good too. :)

@Bee - I'm glad Chrome let you get over here again! Dont worry though, not all Arizonans are crazy. My parents still live there! :)

@California Ink in Motion - Former Sheriff??? Sheriff Joe has been the Sheriff of Maricopa County in AZ since 1993 and is still in office today. I wouldn't be surprised if his wife had him arrested though. :P

    @Lolamouse - It is sad. :(

  13. Joe's been getting sued for years now by entities who use the suits as supposed evidence they're not racist.
Part of the job putting up w/ people who insist on anarchy.

  14. :-) well I did not express that very good. That is what I wanted to say really not everyone is like that. Great to have your blog and thanks for the answer!

  15. @Anonymous - Yes, Joe has been getting sued for years. He wastes a lot of taxpayer money that way.

@Bee at One - Oh. I'm glad you knew they weren't ALL crazy. :)
