Wacky Word Wednesday - Penurious

Penurious
by Rachel Hoyt

My ex, he was quite penurious.
Spending money made him furious.
Frivolity made him rage curious.
Very frugal was he - penurious.

You Tube Tuesday - Crazy McDonalds Rice Mix

Taste Bud Suicide
by Rachel Hoyt
In my day we mostly mixed soda,
like the recipe came from Yoda,
but things always get taken to new levels,
'cuz deep down we're curious little devils.

Friday Photo Fun - Something Sepia

Friday Photo Fun is when I share a randomly captured moment,
or perhaps a photo experiment with more purposeful intent,
then pair it with a rhyming riddle to exercise your mind
and teach you more weird facts to which you once were blind.

Something Sepia

One of those dangers that lurks everywhere,
Neglected, could still have been used if shown care,
Their colorization can be prevented with nail polish,
And supposedly the drink named for them is delish!

So, what is this Sepia thing?
I eagerly await the guesses you'll bring.

Thoughts on Credit, Fine Print and Aliens

Otiose
by Rachel Hoyt
image by Simon Howden via freedigitalphotos.net

I have a friend who knows a guy
that knew a girl who lived by
this guy Otiose we called Otis
who thought that real life could kiss...

He said fairytales can and do come true.
Credit's there to make life easy for you.
No need to worry about tomorrow.
Risk and buy joy now to squash sorrow.

For a time his plans seemed to be working out.
The stock market showed him love for a bout.
He bought himself a really big fancy house
which he liked to lounge around in like a louse.

Then one day aliens invaded the earth
and took everything that he had of worth
and his insurance refused to reimburse him
and creditors would no longer lend on a whim.

Otiose hadn't bothered to read the fine print,
which would have given him more than a hint.
If he too had believed aliens might steal his stuff,
he would have demanded a warranty more buff.

If Otiose had bought with cash and not credit,
he might have had his own money to re-get it,
but when those aliens took his beloved computer,
he learned credit and fine print are joy looters.

Each Thursday I post an original rhyme
inspired by thought provoking news of the time.
This week I learned a certain computer warranty
has no alien invasion coverage for thee.

Wacky Word Wednesday: Incongruent

Incongruent

One could be called incongruent,
For consistently being truant,
Or saying, "Estoy very fluent."
For a student, that'd be incongruent.

You Tube Tuesday - Flying

Flying

Most have dreamt that they could fly,
Some use fancy suits to try,
Others sit and wonder why,
They're afraid to touch the sky.

A Limerick On College Donations and Restrooms

A Potty Plaque for Giving Back

Gave back to his school gen'rously
When they said his cash
Bought him the backsplash -
His thoughts could inspire all who pee!

Friday Photo Fun: Nature

Friday Photo Fun is when I share a randomly captured moment,

then pair it with a rhyming riddle to exercise your mind
and teach you more weird facts to which you once were blind

It's cold looking but also beautiful,
sometimes said to be too plentiful,
brought from South Africa to stabilize
U.S. beachfront railroad ties.

So, what is this thing I shot in nature?
I await your guesses... catch you later!

Thursday Thoughts: Sweethearting aka Employee Theft

Klepto-Perkers

that proved a personal theory
I have about US workers -
they're a bunch of klepto-perkers -
they give so they can get
much to their bosses' regret
skimming from the profits
while having salary fits.

Scoopin' Sally gives ice cream
to make people think she's keen.
Mechanic Moe gives friends a deal
to friends who will give him a steal.
P.I. Pete will tail your spouse
for free fixes around the house.
Banking Betty waives harsh fees
to those who give her gifts that please.

They say that seventy percent
of US employees augment
their salaries as they see fit.
The new, "everybody's doing it"?
A way to survive the recession
and try to avoid depression?
We think that we don't cause a ruckus,
but, sweetheart, you're a pain in the tuchus.

Wacky Word Wednesday: Addlepated

image by Gregory Szarkiewicz via freedigitalphotos.net

Addlepated

Lately I've felt a bit addlepated,
A bit confused and sedated,
Like my mind may have faded,
Clarity downgraded,
Addlepated.

YTT - Happy V-Day from the Three Wives of Newt

Newt's Loot

It's fun to remember that Newt
Has made three gals say, "Aw, shoot.
I'd love to marry you.
Yes, that rock will do...
so long as it's not some saved loot."

Friday Photo Fun: Tracer Lights

I'm a thing that hides from lights,
Not very active during days or nights,
Once a gift worthy of a King,
Sometimes seen at the fighting ring...

So, what is this thing
I captured amongst the tracer lights?
I hope at least one guess you'll bring
and that you won't give in to guessing frights.

Thursday Thoughts: Valentine's Day is Just Days Away

A Purrfect Valentine's Day

I've been single for many a Valentine's Day
and still find it a hard time to know what to say
when the question starts to echo in my brain,
that horrible one that can drive a gal insane,
"Why aren't you dating anyone?
What happened with that last one?"

This incessant brain chatter inevitably leads
to a see if anything online could fulfill my needs.
I'm told the options are constantly expanding
to keep up with what the public is demanding.
I peeked early this year at what's new and exciting,
but didn't really find anything intriguing or inviting.

in case I see any handsome foreign men all alone,
but learning to say "I like you" in four languages,
is proving harder than driving while making sandwiches.
I can do Spanish because I learned it years ago,
but learning a third, fourth and fifth?  I don't know.

which I bet lots of Icelanders are searching tonight
to make sure that cute girl or guy they just met
isn't a familial relation that could cause regret.
(The same families have bred on that island for years.
This digital genealogy tree should help prevent our fears.)

Yet, my favorite thing I learned wasn't really about dating.
In fact, it could in a way prevent some future mating.
You see, I learned my cat's purr has super healing power,
and since she likes to cuddle with me hour after hour,
I'm now not quite so sad to spend V-Day with her,
because who hasn't once wished their Valentine could purr!

Wacky Word Wednesday - Mickle

Image by Maggie Smith via freedigitalphotos.net

Mickle
Mickle rhymes with but is not like a pickle,
But could describe a big pile of nickles,
Or perhaps a gigantic pot of pickles,
Because a lot of something is called a mickle.

You Tube Tuesday - Anonymous Taps FBI Conference Call

Fame-a-nymity

I never imagined "Anonymous"
could become someone famous,
but when you tap an FBI call
where the U.S. and U.K. tell all,
then share it with the world for kicks,
you'll be loved by both hipsters and hicks.

© 2012 - All Rights Reserved - Rachel Hoyt

This is a conference call to discuss some cases:
mostly Anonymous and something called LulzSec.
I wish I could have seen the FBI's faces
when Anonymous released the rec.

Thank you, Gawker for bringing me this news!

Friday Photo Fun: Something Blue

Friday Photo Fun is when I share a randomly captured moment,
or perhaps a photo experiment with more purposeful intent,
then pair it with a rhyming riddle to exercise your mind
and teach you more weird facts to which you once were blind.

This machine's predecessor, the Merry-Go-Round,
is nothing like the ride where children are found,
although children do generally enjoy this machine
and think seeing inside it is pretty darn keen.

So where did I go to shoot this something blue?
I would love to hear some guesses from you!

Thursday Thoughts: Super Bowl Sunday

Tips for Super Bowl Dipsticks

Image by Idea Go via freedigitalphotos.net

This rhyme is dedicated to those new to Super Bowl Sunday.
I'm here to help make sure that you have a fun day.
So I did a bit of research and read some statistics
and came up with these tips for Super Bowl dipsticks.

If you're wondering, at these parties, what people like to eat,
it seems chicken wings, guacamole and chips can't be beat.
Just the guac consumed would spread twelve feet thick on the field.
(With chips and wings, how many full stadiums would that yield?)

If you're told that guests should bring something to drink,
remember people are much more predictable than you think.
Americans drink enough beer that day to fill 493 Olympic pools!
Those who bring non-beer to parties risk being called fools.

If you'd rather be the gal with the perfect parting gift
and can find a good deal on antacid super swift,
use that to help friends avoid the 20% post game sales surge
and fight the "I don't feel like going to work on Monday" urge.

You probably shouldn't speak of the bowl's carbon footprint,
but if, perhaps, you chose to rebel and drop a big fat hint...
310,000 tons of emissions are generated by Super Bowl Sunday.
That's actually enough to make most Americans feel bad, OK?

So, don't be a dipstick.  Bring or make guac, wings and beer.
Enjoy watching the game (and commercials) with those you hold dear.
Stock up on medicine you may need to recover from the party.
And, most importantly, try not to arrive tardy and make sure to root hardy!

Wacky Word Wednesday: Kleptocracy

image by Damian Brandon via freedigitalphotos.net

Kleptocracy

It seems to me that kleptocracy
is a synonym for bureaucracy.

I suppose thievery is the key
to being called a kleptocracy.
