Friday Photo Fun - Something in Landscape

Something in Landscape
by Rachel Hoyt

They decorate the landscape around a music hall
named for a man who animated smiles for all.
It's color is calming, loving and lovely.
In 2005 it was California's 'it' tree.

Friday Photo Fun is when I share a randomly captured moment,
or perhaps a photo experiment with more purposeful intent,
then pair it with a rhyming riddle to exercise your mind
and teach you more weird facts to which you once were blind.

After the answer is guessed, I will post a second, non-abstract photo,
and just in case you wanted to know,
the first is not a photoshopped version of the second -
they're shot using different techniques that to me beckon.

Wanda wins again with her guess, Pink Trumpet Tree.
Without her plant knowledge we
might never see
the answer to this riddle ditty!

  1. As always I'm "stumped." ;-)

But, I will give it a try... Is it the Redwood or Sequoia tree?

I always enjoy coming here! Happy Friday!

    1. Thanks for getting the guessing started, Tameka! :) It is not a redwood or sequoia, but those are also pretty. I believe this is a shorter tree. :)

  2. Dear Rachel, Happy Friday!
I haven't got a clue! With some help from the big "G", I'm going with a form of Panda tree.

    1. It is completely fair game to use the big G, but no, it is not the Panda tree. :) Happy Friday!

  3. I'm going to say it has something to do with Walt Disney. Am I close? :)

    1. It does have something to do with Walt Disney... when I googled it I found that (supposedly) Disney Hall is surrounded by these trees. :) Good riddle solving, Martha! :)

    1. Not a palm tree... it is more colorful. :) Happy Friday Pat! :)

    2. A polk-a-dotted palm tree?

I might have to pass on this one. I'm bad with types of trees. I probably wouldn't be able to guess even if you posted the normal picture.

I'll throw poinsettia out there, though. (Is that even a type of tree?)

    3. LOL. Polka dotted palm tree... that's it! j/k Uhm, no... not it. It is also not a poinsettia, which is actually more like a bush, I think...

I'm working on another clue... hmmmm...

  5. No, the yellow is from the tree behind the tree in question... Thanks for guessing though! :-). At this rate, we may not solve this one.

  6. NEW CLUE FOR EVERYONE -- the answer to the riddle rhymes with the following phrases:

    1. You got it, Wanda! It's a pink trumpet tree. :) We needed you this week. I didn't know how unusual that tree was (or it's name) when I took it's picture. :) Oops! Accidental increased difficulty level.

      Have a great weekend!

    2. Good on you Wanda! I'd like to know your secret in getting these riddles right? (smile)

    3. I cheated and looked it up yesterday after you mentioned the music hall.

    4. I think Wanda knows the name of at least 3/4 of the plants in the world. Bryan, I can't identify plants without Google (most of the time), so I don't consider that cheating. I actually try to write the riddle to give you something random to google. :)
